It's a busy October at Geiger!

There are two meetings tomorrow, October 4th.  Mrs. Gish is hosting a dine and discuss session about proficiency based learning in the art room from 5-6pm. Please RSVP to her at cgish@lewistonpublicschools.org.
Immediately following from 6-7pm is our second PTO meeting of the year. We'll be discussing the last movie night and the upcoming school dance among other topics and events we have going on.

Friday, October 13th is our annual family dance at 6:30pm in the school gym.  The Harvest Masquerade is a costume party, but remember - costumes should be appropriate for school.  No drop offs please (the kids want to see you dance!).

October 16th and 17th are parent teacher conferencesReminder that there is no school on October 16th and conferences are being scheduled all day. Papers should have come home with information on how to sign up.  If you have questions, call the office!

Other no school days - October 6 and 9th are no school days and October 18th is early release day.

Please remember to send in Box Tops! The next submission date is on November 1st.  Box Tops usually brings in about $1000 per school year, so they are a big help when it comes to supporting the school!

Reminder: The Meadow Farms fundraiser is due this week also.  This is not a PTO fundraiser, but we're on board with anything that helps our school!

Welcome to PTO for the 2017-2018 School Year!

It's the first day of school and we're so happy to be back!  Geiger elementary has a very active PTO and we invite YOU to get involved.

So, what is PTO anyway?
PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization.  We're a group of parents and teachers (and administrators and grandparents and friends) who share a common goal of supporting Geiger school.  The mission of the Geiger Elementary PTO is threefold:

1. To support our educators in providing our children with the best educational, recreational, and social experiences.

2. To act as a communication and resource tool for parents in the school community.

3. To support Geiger Elementary School by raising funds which go directly to the school in order to enhance facilities and compliment programs offered to our children.

We do this in a number of ways and there are big and small ways to get involved.  Come to our meeting on September 13th in the art room at 6pm so you can see how we meet our mission.  CLICK HERE for the agenda (all of the things we will be talking about) and CLICK HERE for the calendar of meetings and events that we will be voting on.  We can't wait to see you!

We've got a lot to cover at our April 12th meeting!

Click here to see the agenda for the meeting on April 12th at 6pm. We want to send some clarification regarding the proficiency based learning (new report card) item on the agenda.  The PBL discussion at this meeting is regarding the 4th grade report cards from this year only. There was some misinformation shared in a previous email, so please know that this discussion will not be about the plan for PBL for the coming year.  If you're looking for more information on proficiency based learning (like, what it is...) there will be a meeting in May for all of the schools in Lewiston.

PTO Officer Nominations will be going out at the meeting tomorrow, too.  If you or someone you know wants to support our school through PTO, nominate them for an officer position.  Elections will be held at the May 10th meeting. (Note: a nominated person must accept the nomination before their name will appear on the ballot.)

The next big PTO things are the annual Variety Show on May 26th and Teacher Appreciation Week during the first week of May. Auditions for the variety show have already happened and rehearsal will be underway soon.  We will try to post some of the awesome things happening during the Variety Show and Teacher Appreciation week so you can see what's going on!

And, of course, we're in full TOUGH GATOR CHALLENGE mode!  Did you see the article that came out in the Sun Journal today (Click here)? We still need LOTS of volunteers just to help out on June 3rd. So, if you're up for it, email us at volunteer@toughgatorchallenge.com.

Finally, next week is April Break.  Have a safe and restful break everyone. It's a great time to check out the websites (www.geigerpto.org and www.toughgatorchallenge.com) and our facebook pages (www.facebook.com/geigerpto and www.facebook.com/toughgator ) and get caught up on all things PTO!

Our monthly March meeting is tomorrow, March 8th at 6:00pm in the art room.  The agenda is ready to go.  Our focus will be on Tough Gator Challenge.

Tomorrow, March 8th is also an early release day.  Students will arrive home two hours earlier than usual.

Parent teacher conferences are coming up!  Letters went home with sign up information.  Conferences will be held March 22nd and 23rd.  Call the office if you're missing information or need help scheduling.

THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY ONLY our very talented Drama Gators will take the stage for their performances of Shrek Jr!  They will be performing in the gym at the school at 7:00pm on March 10th and 11th.  Tickets can be purchased at the door, $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.  Come support the arts in our school!

Information about our annual PTO sponsored Variety Show will be heading home soon.  The show is scheduled for May 12th.

Finally, please save the date for our April PTO meeting.  On April 12th, during our regularly scheduled meeting, Mrs. Gish will be presenting information about proficiency based learning (the new report cards).  She is also looking for parent feedback about PBL.  We are excited to have this conversation and facilitate this connection between our school and families.

See you tomorrow!

News from the Geiger Elementary School PTO

PTO Meeting on Wednesday, December 14th!

And other PTO things...

This Wednesday is our last PTO meeting of 2016!  We are looking forward to an exciting new year but there are a few things we have to wrap up first.  Here is the tentative agenda for our meeting.  We'll be in the art room from 6 - 7 pm.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, December 13th is Noche Mexicana from 4-10pm.  If you come to Maragarita's on Center Street in Auburn and let them know you're there for Geiger, a portion of your bill will be donated to PTO.  Also, we are hoping to raffle off one free registration for the Tough Gator Challenge 2017. We are looking for a volunteer to hand out flyers and sell raffle tickets on Tuesday evening at Margaritas.  If you are available to help (even if its for a short amount of time), PLEASE email Michelle at geigerpto@gmail.com.

We are so grateful for a successful 2016 and we look forward to doing more great work to help our school and our students.  Make PTO your 2017 New Year's resolution.  Look for us on Facebook, Twitter, at geigerpto.org, and every 2nd Wednesday of the month in the art room!
